In reference to the enclosed notice
to deliver Opium to Gilman
& Co taken out of the Store - Ship
Tropic and to all other notices of a
similar kind which
you may
receive it appears to me that
strictly you cannot detain property
in the hands of
a Bailee such as
Mr Stanford is which is clearly
proved, not to be his but to be ~
the property of the Claimant.
